Before you start your blog you need to choose the right software or platform to run it on. Blogging solutions can be broadly divided into two types:

• Without domain
• With your own domain

If you want to get up and running quickly you can easily signup for a free blog from a wide selection of providers which will give you an address like: http://yourblog.someblogprovider.com OR http://someblogprovider.com/yourblog While this maybe a good way to get started it can cause issues in the long term. What if the blog provider shuts down? What if they change their terms of service? What if you want to extend the features? When you are using someone else's domain you will run into limitations. If you can use your own domain then you will have a lot more freedom. If you want to move it to another provider it will always be yours to move as you please.
